VOLUNTEER
We’re a grassroots effort figuring it out as we go, and there’s more to organize than any small group can handle alone.
Here’s where we need help:
Block captains.
We’re building block-by-block coverage across the Hill. Block captains help make sure their street is plugged in: neighbors are informed, catch basins are treated, and trap participation is as high as possible. It’s a light lift with an outsized effect.
Learn more about what block captains do and if your block has one here: Block captains →
Once you’ve decided you’re ready to sign up, fill out this volunteer interest form with your contact information and the bounding intersections of your block. we’ll add you to the block captain group and map. Block captain volunteer interest form →
Outreach.
Helping spread the word at community events, posting flyers, staffing a table at a farmers market. If you’re good at talking to people, we need you.
If you want to hand out flyers, feel free to print this PDF and share widely! Don’t sleep on the free printing at DC Libraries — library card holders get up to 20 pages of high quality printed materials every day!
Data collection.
We’re mapping untreated catch basins and standing water in public spaces across the neighborhood. This means walking blocks, logging locations, and helping us build a picture of where the problem is worst.
Everything else.
Coordinating with DC Health and local organizations, native planting initiatives, grant research, social media, web stuff. We’re still figuring out what we need and we’d love to hear what you’re good at
